What did Jesus mean when He said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s”? (Mark 12:1-17; Matthew 22:15-22; Luke 20:20-26)
Mark 12:1-17 – “"Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15Should we pay or shouldn't we?"
Pay your taxes…
Matthew 22:15-22 – “Jesus, knowing their evil intent..”
Pay your taxes!
Luke 20:20-26 – “He saw through their duplicity,
Pay your taxes!
For me, the most striking thing about this discourse away from Jesus’ response; ‘Pay your taxes!’, is the fact that; 1. They recognized Him as a man of character and preacher of the truth; not ‘swayed by men’, and, 2. Jesus knew they were trying to trap him, that they were duplicitous and acting with evil intent.
He knew men, he was not swayed by the world and he spoke the truth.
"Pay your taxes”
