I'm in a bit of a funk this AM. Thinking about my sinfulness and the difficulty of being less than pure, tempted over and over throughout the day; succumbing and falling deeper and deeper into shame, but.... I was immediately encouraged as I confessed to God and was guided to the Word when I saw Sharra's Facebook entry;
Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Wow, miraculous that I would be guided to that, just by spending a short time seeking Him and following the inspiration to His Word.
Verse 1 states; "Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart." Whoops, that is just what I was lamenting; how impure I am. But, I am part of Israel through Christ. I am pure in heart because I believe in Jesus Christ as God's redemption for the lost; you and me!
The book goes on to identify the 'envy' felt by David toward the 'arrogant' (non-believers) as he speaks to God in this Psalm. He speaks of their 'apparent' peace and contentment in their sinfulness, but, they are not so and will receive their 'just' reward, similar to the way the flower fades and dies.
The bottom line for me in this is that God is our EVERYTHING and we are His people on this earth; redeemed, forgiven, enlivened by His Spirit and priests for Him.
Let's not let Satan convince us otherwise and let's maintain our focus on Him and His word to respond to His promptings for loving Him and others as ourselves. In this is the whole law.
